My baby’s feet when we took a nature walk the other day. It was maybe my favorite two hours of the summer so far. We walked, talked, watched birds, and generally had a really nice time after a rough morning. Sometimes all we need is a little outside time to reset ourselves.
I was so inspired by our nature walk that one night we got food from Cafe Yumm (our favorite “fast food”) and had picnic at Minto Brown park. It was a beautiful evening!
I really appreciate that my little one uses his tea set for tea parties and as part of an elaborate construction project.
Once upon a time, when I was 39 weeks pregnant with Bug, we went to Santa Fe for dinner and to see Neko Case in concert. I LOVE her and was so excited to finally see her live. And then, as we were waiting to get in the doors, 20 minutes from show time, she cancelled due to illness. To say I was disappointed was the understatement of the year. They were really gracious about compensating everyone, but due to a new baby and a move across the country we didn’t get to see her. Until now! On July 2 we got to see her with K.D. Lang and Laura Veirs at the Oregon Zoo. It was worth the wait! I didn’t get to hear most of my favorites, but everything from their new album is AMAZING and she sang my favorite song as an encore. It was amazing.
4th of July parade in Independence. We skipped the big fireworks show and grilled at my mom’s with some small fireworks. I’m glad we didn’t spend money, mess up bedtime, and battle crowds for the real fireworks because Bug wasn’t happy even about the small ones.
It’s blueberry time in the Willamette Valley! We’ve got 30 pounds of freshly picked blueberries in the freezer, blueberry-chia jelly, and blueberry muffins.
“Mama, I want to clean!”
“Ok, what do you want to clean?”
I have no idea where his enthusiasm for cleaning windows came from since I hate to wash them and rarely do, but whatever, I’ll take it! I love that he loves to help us with stuff around the house.
A campfire with s’mores, my family, my knitting (a blanket for Baby Girl), my Bullet Journal (look it up, it’s cool for a lady like me who loves planning and lists), and the world’s most comfortable pants.
This summer has been WEIRD! The weather has been mostly cool and cloudy still. We even had a fire one morning because our house was so chilly. I’m not complaining though.
Just the trail near our house that I’ve been trying to take advantage of a little more. It’s a little nerve-wracking with a toddler because there is quite a bit of poison oak, but so far we’ve managed to stay out of it.
Our vegetable garden is doing well and I can’t wait until it’s ready to start harvesting. We’ve already decided we need a couple more raised beds for next year.
Sometimes I look at him and I see my baby, but more and more I look at him and think, “when did you get to be such a kid?!” He rides his bike to the park, expresses himself better and better, plays imagination games, “reads” to himself, helps around the house, and is just so much fun.
Hiking with friends at Ankeny Wildlife Refuge. It’s so close to Salem, I don’t know why we don’t go more often.
